英国の現地時間1月8日、ハリー王子とメーガン妃が公式Instagramでロイヤルファミリーの中心的メンバーとしての役割から退く旨を発表したことは皆さんご存知かと思います。

その後、エリザベス女王への事前の相談がなく行われたものだとしてイギリスで問題になっていましたが、本日現地時間1月13日(月)に緊急家族会議が行われ、ハリー王子夫妻の王室離脱が容認されました。

緊急の会議はイギリス東部のエリザベス女王の別邸で開かれ、ハリー王子夫妻の離脱が容認となりました。

会議後のエリザベス女王の声明の一部には、以下のように記されています。

My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

さらに声明には、カナダ・イギリス両国での公的資金に頼らない生活を実現するために、移行期間を設けることで両者が合意したことが記されています。

ちなみに、家族会議にはハリー王子の父親であるチャールズ皇太子や兄のウィリアム王子が出席しましたが、メーガン妃はすでにカナダに出国したため、電話参加となったことも明らかになっています。

ということで、ハリー王子の「サセックス公爵」という称号についてや、カナダでの警備費用なども話題に上がっていますが、今後の具体的な移行期間などの発表が気になるところです。
